Around Phuket Town
So what happened last night? After I finished blogging we went to a local bar and I tried the local bucket... its a drink with the local Thai Whiskey, coke and red bull. It cost me 65baht. That is nothing. Just under R10... The drink is insane. I love it. It is kinda sweet though. Very nice... Then we walked back to the hostel and we stopped by a local art shop. Omg the people are so friendly and the ladies art and her husbands were out of this world. So much so that they have toured most of the world doing art exibitions. They were very nice. After that we came back and then slept till this morning. The touristy thing happened today. We found a local that took us to all the places for very cheap and the places he took us to were cheap as well. We saw the butterfly farm. You have to see the footage I took at this place. We then went to the culture centre and watched a culture show. That was great. My sister and Christaan both had to go up with others from the audience to do the raindance. I took footage of that too. We then left there and went for an elephant ride through the jungle. Nothing great about that... But at least I can say I've ridden an elephant. While we were riding the elephant Christaan played soccer with the locals. That looked like it was real fun. We then went to see one of the temples here in Phuket. It was a Thai temple. The other temples that they have here are Chinese temples but they are smaller than the Thai ones. Whilst driving there was, what looked like, a huge hotel being built on top of one of the hill/mountains here. We asked the guy driving us what it was and he said its the Phuket Buddha they are building. Man this thing looks massive. All that they have left is to build the rest of the head. The guy that was driving us around was very nice. Told us about his family and about the area and was like a real tour guide minus the real touristy information. Was a nice way to get to know the real Phuket. We then came back to the hostel and my sister and Christaan are taking a nap now. Each in their own rooms. Me I'm going to see what else there is in town to be had. O and btw, you won't believe how many old men and single male travelers there are with one Thai woman. Seems like they might be hookers that act as a tour guide/language interpreter for them as well, but I mean its the dirtiest old men with these petit woman. Christaan said that when we were at the beach the other day he saw a old fat man ask for this one girl and her friend was trying to convince her to go with the old man and the friend wanted nothing to do with him. He said it was kinda bad to see how some of these men were snickering and laughing as this was going on and then high fived each other when the girl left because she didn't want to go with the guy. I personally haven't been harrased at all by a hooker, even though people said its all over the place. From what I've seen its not as bad as everyone says it is... I also noticed how clean it is here. The streets and stuff are lank run down and the bulidings. But when you enter them and look at the streets, they are always clean. Even with all the stray dogs here, the floors in all the places are spotless, the streets are clean, its way cleaner than Cape Town but a lot poorer as well. Almost like the dodgy part of Muzinberg but clean. Anyways time to take another walk, but before I go I need to mention that the days was fun but not half as fun as grimming it with the locals and doing the more travelers thing to the touristy thing. Also my sister seems to have returned to normal. Wish I was with a male friend though. This place rocks when you have someone to travel with that you don't have to convince to do things. Not that my sister takes much convincing, but she is my sister...
